Car rental company Kia Motors said it has begun offering a $5.99-per-week car rental option to people who don’t already have a vehicle, and is now accepting payment in Bitcoin.
The company has already taken deposits to buy cars for people with an existing car, but this is the first time it’s offering free car rentals.
Kia is also accepting Bitcoin for its payment.
“This program will allow Kia drivers to access the wealth of online content, apps, and services available through the Kia Connect platform,” the company said in a statement.
“We are thrilled to partner with Kia and are excited to bring this to the community.”
Kia said it plans to begin offering the program to its users on October 27, but it hasn’t announced the pricing yet.
The service, which will include up to a dozen cars at a time, comes as the popularity of Bitcoin in the car rental industry has exploded in recent years.
Bitcoin has surged in value from around $1,000 a coin in 2013 to more than $30,000 in November, making it a popular alternative to traditional payment methods.
