The automotive world’s biggest ride-hailing company, Lyft, is hiring.
According to Recode, Lyft has announced that the Detroit-based company will be opening an office in Detroit, the city where the company’s first ride-sharing service, Uber, is based.
Lyft’s announcement comes on the heels of a report by Recode that revealed the company had laid off 100 people in the U.S. on Thursday.
The news comes as Uber has also laid off more than 100 people, with about 300 jobs cut from its workforce in Detroit.
Recode reported the layoffs on Thursday, with the Detroit Free Press saying that Uber had more than 4,000 workers laid off in the city.
Recodes sources told the publication that Lyft had also closed a new manufacturing facility in the region, but that the company was not able to share the details.
Uber and Lyft both operate in Detroit but have a long history of working together in the area.
Uber announced in February that it was expanding its Detroit operation to a new facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Lyft is also expanding in the Bay Area, where it currently operates.
Recoding’s source said the new office in the Detroit area will open in the coming months.
Lyft has also expanded its Detroit operations into other parts of the city, with employees at its Detroit office expected to continue working at the new headquarters until the end of the year.
