(AP) The owners of thrifty-car rental company Thrifty Car Rental will start charging customers $10 per month for the next three months starting in December.
The company says it will also give customers the option of buying a car at full price.
The move is part of a shift in Thrifty’s strategy to offer more affordable car rentals across the country.
Thrifty, based in Memphis, Tennessee, has a network of more than 100 car rental companies and provides its services through its own website.
The plan comes as the economy improves and car rentals become more popular.
The market for car rentals is expected to grow to more than $300 billion in 2020 from $300.4 billion in 2015, according to a report from the National Association of Home Builders.
The Thrifty cars will be available for $350 per month, up from $295.
Thrift Car Rotation is offering a Thrifty pickup that can be driven on its own, but will cost $35 more.
